We are very fortunate here in Southwestern Ohio to have a wide range of services, activities, and events available for those with disabilities. But a big challenge remains--how do we find out about them?
To help with this challenge, Howdy Neighbors has launched a new service called Cincinnati Adaptive Events. This newsletter collects, compiles, and sends out information about upcoming events hosted by a sizable number of organizations in the greater Cincinnati area who serve or provide special access to the disabled community. We've done this because we are always learning about new activities, and we've learned that we are not alone. 9/24/2025 0 Comments A Honking Good TimeHONKS FOR JASON is a recurring Howdy, Neighbors campaign designed to spread happiness through a simple wave, a smile, and a honk in return. We also fundraise for a number of partner organizations focused on support for individuals with disabilities. Started in 2021, Honks for Jason and associated foundation grant matches have now raised over $100,000 for your neighbors with disabilities!
The concept is simple--we find a shady, safe spot where there is some street traffic and start waving at the passing cars. Over the years, we've been joined by hundreds of neighbors--both old and new--and partnered with many businesses and organizations for special waving events. We've seen everything from parades to impromptu concerts, performances, and lots of sharing of experiences. Over time, passing drivers learn to wave, then to honk, and then (often) to stop and share their own stories. We view each wave and honk as a bond of trust that strengthens the community just a tiny bit. And it's lots of fun!
