Your involvement helps us celebrate!
Howdy, Neighbors is a site we began in 2015 to celebrate and share the human spirit in all its wonder. It was inspired by our son Jason, who has turned a challenging disability into a positive force that has enriched our lives, along with the lives of many of our friends, family, and neighbors. Jason has an infectious and enthusiastic way about him, and he often bring smiles to those he encounters in his interactions.

Jason spends some mornings waving at UPS package trucks as they leave their facilityAs parents of this wonderful young adult with cerebral palsy (Jason), we’ve (Lori and Pete) learned to embrace the positive auras these individuals bring to whatever they pursue, and to partner with those dedicated souls who seek to make the lives of kids and adults with disabilities fuller and more meaningful. Jason has taught us much about ourselves–the beauty of the world and its people, how joy can be spread to others, and what really matters in our daily lives.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder with often widespread effects and tremendous impact on children and their families. At the same time, kids and adults with CP are typically joyful, giving, and inspirational in their persistence against all odds. For 2024, we are channeling a gift of Jason’s–his outgoing nature–to help St Joseph Home, which includes a wonderful local day program for adults with disabilities. Previously, Pete decided to raise awareness for children with cerebral palsy and their families by running the Superior 100, an extreme trail race through technically challenging terrain in northern Minnesota. Altogether, these efforts and an associated car rally (under our previous name, Celebrating Perseverance) has raised over $100,000 for St Joseph Home, the Mason Challenger Baseball League, and the CP clinic at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
We hope you join with us! With your assistance, we can help make the lives of those with disabilities more meaningful and carefree. More importantly, we can share in Jason’s message of love and inclusiveness.
